“The Castle” is probably my all time favourite movie – and it’s on TV tonight. I think it is one of the best examples of the great Aussie “taking the piss” comedy culture that there is. There are so many cliché characters in the movie, but they are so well done and don’t become sad and embarrassing, which often happens in movies. I’ve always been a huge fan of the “D Generation” which is where the producers of this movie came from. The D Gen used to be on Melbourne breakfast radio and often had me in stitches. They are also responsible for the great sit-com “Frontline” (about a current affairs TV show) and another great movie “The Dish”. Some of their later productions have passed me by due to the fact that I’m on the other side of the world.
Back to “The Castle”… you know, it’s so warm and fuzzy it could almost be a damn Disney movie – it’s about a close family and their struggle against the evil corporate empire, the little guy rising up and fighting for his rights. Maybe one or two more swear words than Disney would ever allow 🙂 The first time I saw this movie was in a theatre in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Odd place to see it, but I was working there at the time and it was playing at a tiny independent cinema.
